UP Warriorz named veteran Australian opener Alyssa Healy as captain for the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) on Wednesday (February 22).
During the WPL 2023 auction held earlier this month, the Capri Global Holdings Private Limited franchise acquired the services of Australian star Alyssa Healy for INR 70 lakh.
Statement from Alyssa Healy:
“The WPL is a tournament we’ve all been eagerly awaiting, and the UP Warriorz have a fantastic team waiting for a smashing performance once things get going.”
“We have a good mix of experience and youth along with talent and look forward to putting on a show for our fans. We are here to win and be ruthless in our kind of cricket.”
Healy’s notable career includes five T20 World Cup wins (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2020) and a recent ODI World Cup victory in New Zealand. She has amassed 2446 T20I runs at a success rate of nearly 128, with a century and 14 half-centuries to her credit.
Alyssa Healy’s credentials as a leader are impressive as she recently captained the Australian T20I team in India and the Sydney Sixers in the WBBL. With her experience, Healy will prove to be a valuable asset to UP Warriorz in the tournament.
