The second test match between West Indies And India proved to be a riveting match that had everything from brilliant batting performances to fiery bowling spells. However, the rain gods had other plans as persistent showers on the final and fifth days washed away any hopes of a decisive result. The game eventually ended in a draw, leaving both teams with mixed feelings.
Asked to bat first in game, India’s batting duo of Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli showed masterful stroke play and took India to a huge total in their first innings. Rohit looked good as he scored a classy 80 runs off 143 deliveries. Meanwhile, Kohli patiently built his innings and showed his exceptional ability to handle the opposing bowlers with ease. Kohli hammered a brilliant 121 runs off 266 balls.
On the other hand, the West Indian pacemaker Kemar Voorn and the left arm spinner Jomel Warrican managed to slow down the Indian score. Roach took three crucial wickets for 104 runs, while Warrican claimed three wickets for 89 runs. Despite their efforts, India posted a competitive total of 438 runs before being knocked out in 128 overs.
In response, the West Indies batting unit fought against the disciplined Indian bowling attack. Kraigg Brathwaite was the standout for the hosts, showing great patience and determination as he compiled a gritty 75 runs from 235 deliveries. Alick Athanaze put up some resistance and contributed 37 runs, but that was about it Mohammed Siraj’s sensational bowling spell that stole the limelight. The Indian pacer was the sloper-in-chief as he brilliantly exploited the conditions to claim an impressive tally and helped India limit the Caribbean side to a total of 255 runs.
With a significant lead in hand, India came to bat in their second innings with positive intentions. Rohit and Ishan Kishan got off to a thrilling start, scoring 57 and 52 fast runs respectively. India declared their second innings at 181/2 in just 24 overs, giving the West Indies a target of 365 runs to win the match on the final day.
Although India looked very much in the game, the rain played a spoilsport. On the fifth and final day of the test match, there were persistent showers that made any play impossible. The wet outfield and soggy conditions led to the inevitable decision to call off the game as a draw.
With the draw, India took the two-match Test series (1–0). Siraj was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional bowling performance.
