The Memphis Grizzlies are way ahead of even the most optimistic timelines that NBA pundits suspected would be on them. Taylor Jenkins has done a fantastic job of leading this group, which is mostly young players who are not even close to their prime, and making them a contender in the Western Conference.
After finishing last season with the second-best record in the NBA, the Grizzlies are once again looking to be one of the best teams in the league. They are 31–13, owners of the third-best record currently and second in the Western Conference.
Memphis will struggle in the postseason as they look for a deeper run for the third season in a row. After missing out in 2020, the Grizzlies won the NBA Play-In Tournament in 2021 before losing in the first round and advancing to the conference semifinals last season. This season, the goal is Western Conference Finals or better.
The team is certainly talented enough to make such a deep run, led by All-Star Ja Morant. The supporting cast is strong with Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. joining him for arguably the best young Big 3 in the NBA as they are all 24 or younger.

If there’s one thing Memphis could use, it’s an upgrade on the wing. At Bleacher Report, a hypothetical trade was put together that would address that. One of the trades to blow up the 2023 playoff race included the Grizzlies acquiring OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors.
Anunoby is in the running for Defensive Player of the Year as a multi-position stopper. He is the modern NBA wing that teams yearn to build rosters like a two-way star. To bring him in, the Grizzlies trade Danny Green, David Roddy, a 2023 first-round pick, a 2024 first-round pick (via GSW), and a lottery-protected 2025 first-round pick.

To avoid the luxury tax, Anunoby is one of the players the Raptors call on, along with Gary Trent Jr. and Fred VanVleet. While they’ve given no indication that they want to make trades, that kind of draw capital would be hard to pass over from the Raptors.
Currently, 1.5 games out of the NBA Play-In Tournament, the coming weeks will be crucial for the Raptors. Deciding that rebuilding is their best course of action, the Grizzlies must get on the phone quickly and try to make a deal for Anunoby to boost their wing rotation for what they hope will be a deep run in the postseason.
