The Premier League has started again now that March is on the calendar. The weekend’s series of matches also has some tasty matches. That includes a derby, a top-five clash and some key games for relegation candidates.
Manchester City’s game against Newcastle kicks off the weekend on Saturday morning. The reverse game in the league produced one of the games of the season. a 3–3 draw at St. James Park was marked by beautiful goals and a comeback. The game at the Etihad Stadium is important for both, as Newcastle are behind Tottenham Hotspur in the league table and City need points to keep up with Arsenal at the top.
After that, the relegation battle is huge. Leeds travel to Chelsea, who have handed out points to those bottom this season. Southampton took three points there before losing to Leeds. The Saints play against Leicester City on Saturday and are still bottom of the table. The other relegation candidates are Everton, Bournemouth, West Ham and Wolves. All underdogs in their games over the weekend.
Even then, the biggest game on Sunday is Manchester United’s journey to Anfield to take on Liverpool. This could be an important moment in the future of both clubs. A win at Anfield would see United complete the double over Liverpool this season. With that, Erik ten Hag would legitimately have his club in the title race. The Red Devils are only eight behind Arsenal and six behind City, in no way insurmountable. Liverpool are still in the race to finish in the top four. However, Jürgen Klopp’s team is still nine points behind Tottenham Hotspur in that regard. Three points more than a United in form would do wonders.
NBC coverage this weekend
Rebecca Lowe will be back at the NBC coverage desk this weekend, along with Tim Howard and Robbie Mustoe. Paul Burmeister fills in Monday’s buffer coverage. The studio crews have pregame and postgame coverage for each of the six kickoff windows this weekend.
The busiest of those windows is at 10 a.m. Saturday, when there are five simultaneous games. Tune GOAL RUSH. This revolving show focuses on one game, but features highlights and key moments that unfold from the other four grounds.
There are also games in 4K this weekend, three in fact. Those are the City-Newcastle game, the clash between Liverpool and United and the final between Brentford and Fulham. To watch the Premier League in 4K, you’ll need to make sure you have the right hardware and subscriptions.
